ModyWorks: Artists

Aman Ellis

Whether it's tech house, italo or glitchy stuff, the guy can write a tune almost as if it was second nature to him.

There is a fine line between self-indulgence and art. Treading this line is Alabama native and Brooklyn resident Aman Ellis. When asked about the intent of making music, the electronic musician and DJ/producer replied: “For me, music is as much about the process as it is the outcome. You get in a trance when making it, nothing matters but rhythms and notes. It’s beneficial to your soul to be able to get this stuff out of your head, but once it’s out, it’s not mine anymore, it’s yours."

Seeking to harness the delicate balance between human emotions and music, and inspired by the limitless possibilities of electronic music and the organic roots music of his southern upbringing, Ellis highlights this juxtaposition by weaving together complex and intricate rhythms with simple yet alluring melodies. The sound is classic and at the same time contemporary. A listen through his catalog and one will see a central theme starts to develop, one that is uniquely his own.

Aman Ellis' freshman release All The Things was issued to critical acclaim in early 2010 on Abstract Logic Recordings. The EP received much praise from the music blog community, spent a few weeks on the Juno Top 50 Minimal/Tech House chart and was an ALR featured release on Beatport.

It was followed later that year by The Cacti EP, Vol. 1, the first installment in Ellis' successful and critically-heralded Cacti series. The Vol. 2 was released in October 2011.
